Burg Neuhaus

The romantic setting on top of a hill combined with modern living comfort and its tranquil location make this medieval fortress an unparalleled vacation experience, to be shared only with the owners, some kestrels and a numerous and faithful family of swifts.

From June to September we provide for our guests one double bedroom with bathroom and two self-catering apartments on the third floor of the castle’s impressive keep. The "Rittersaal" (110 m²) offers the ideal location for events, seminars, weddings or birthday parties.

Stubenberg Suite (60 m², sleeping 3) consists of a very large room with three beds, kitchenette, bathroom (shower) and walk-in closet, offering a spectacular view over Stubenberg valley and the lake. Draxler Suite (100m², sleeping 4) consists of a master bedroom, a smaller bedroom for kids, dining room, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and hall. All rooms are facing south and are stylish furnished. If required cots are available at no extra cost. WLAN-connection is possible. Common room with TV and DVD, Courtyard for sunbathing and playing. Pets on request.

Short history: Neuhaus Castle was built in the 14th century by the counts of Stubenberg as a fief; a Hans of Neuhaus is first documented in 1375. A fire which destroyed the castle in 1541 is the historic background for a gruesome legend which we will tell you when you are here. A second fire in 1800 marks the beginning of nearly two centuries of decay (today we have lightning rods!). Thanks to the unusual strength and thickness of the walls sufficient substance had survived in 1982 to engage in the revitalization of this impressive structure.

Today, the reconstruction of the castle’s keep – with its height of 32 meters probably the oldest "skyscraper" in Styria – is largely completed, two annexed buildings are in the works. Despite the changeful past of the castle our ghost is quite friendly and sympathetic towards strangers!
